Giving Back this Christmas

Over this festive period Techbuyer is committed to helping support local charities that do amazing work right on our doorstep.

We are delighted to announce that the Techbuyer-supported Christmas Appeal by The Stray Ferret in aid of local charity Resurrected Bites, a Harrogate-based organisation that provides food and basic necessities to those in need in our area, has smashed its £5,000 target in less than a week of its launch!

The initial target of £5,000 – matched by Techbuyer - was reached over the weekend of December 3-4, just days after the Christmas Appeal launch at the end of November and, at the time of writing, public donations stand at £7,638. That means, including Techbuyer’s £5,000 donation, the appeal has reached a fantastic £12,638!

It really is a great start and with the campaign running until midnight on December 24, things can only get better!

Fill Bellies Not Bins | Food Waste in the UK

All money raised for Resurrected Bites really does make a difference to so many peoples’ lives all year round, not just at Christmas. The charity’s year-round mission is to fill bellies not bins and rightly so - one in five children in the UK are living in poverty, all whilst 30% of the UK’s food goes to waste.

As a champion of the circular economy, it’s important that every resource is properly used – especially when precious food can help sustain someone in need. That’s why we chose to work with Resurrected Bites to reach as many of those in need as we can. It is reassuring to know that, with the success so far of this appeal, many more people can enjoy as merry a Christmas as possible.

Onwards and Upwards!

As there are a couple of weeks to go before the appeal ends (at midnight on Christmas Eve) and the response so far has been so fantastic, the overall target for the Christmas Appeal has been raised to £20,000!

This would give Resurrected Bites almost three months of operating costs, as each month costs the oragnisation a minimum of £7,500 to run the cafes and grocery stores, further helping those in need and addressing the food waste problem.

Resurrected Bites hosts a number of projects and events in the Harrogate area throughout the year, including ‘give-as-you-can' cafes where attendees can grab a delicious meal and pay whatever they feel the food is worth, or that they can afford. This not only funds the organisation but also allows people to eat out for less.

The organisation also provides groceries and domestic necessities at greatly reduced prices to help those in poverty purchase what they need without feeling as though they must rely on charity. Through its fantastic work, Resurrected Bites aids the development of circular waste systems, shines a light on the UK food waste problem and provides much-needed support to those less privileged in our region.

As Michelle Hayes of Resurrected Bites says, to hit the £5000 target so quickly is amazing: “I am blown away by the generosity of so many people who have got the total to £7,658 in under a week.

“This equates to a month’s basic operating costs and with Techbuyer’s amazing donation of £5k matched funding on top, we are heading towards covering our costs for two months,” she adds. “We have a lot of anonymous donors and so I have not been able to thank them directly but please know that every penny means so much.”
