IEMA Training Review

I was part of a small group of Techbuyer colleagues who recently attended our one-day IEMA-accredited Environmental Sustainability Skills for the Workforce training course, part of a range of resources Techbuyer offers all businesses and individuals.

IEMA – the Institute for Environmental Management & Assessment – is the largest professional body for anyone working in areas where the environment and sustainability are relevant considerations. It provides resources and acting as a knowledge-sharing hub alongside training, insights, and best practices for all employees, not just sustainability professionals. For us at Techbuyer, whose driving force is sustainability in the technology arena, the course we did was an invaluable experience.

Can You Tell us a Bit More About the Course You Attended?

The training day I was a part of was delivered by our Head of Sustainability, Astrid Wynne, a Chartered Environmentalist whose knowledge and understanding of sustainability issues make her a highly proficient tutor and IEMA practitioner.

How did You Find Your Experience of IEMA Training?

I found this course highly engaging and educational. It covers the main environmental risks and opportunities facing virtually all organisations; the importance of resource efficiency; the impacts of pollution, prevention of, transport, emissions control and legislation; and knowing how employees can support environmental sustainability, all delivered in an accessible and practical manner.

Upon completing this corporate sustainability training I am far more aware of sustainability and environmental issues within the workplace. I have a good grasp of the main environmental and economic risks and opportunities plus compliance obligations and business drivers for change and how to improve environmental performance. I now feel emboldened to think about ways to potentially improve our operations sustainably in and out of my department.

How Important Do You Think that Sustainability Training is for Organisations?

Training and understanding provided by sustainability courses are becoming increasingly important, and as companies and jobs within them become more aware of green issues, we all need to acquire green skills, many of them outside the specialised sustainability areas one might expect. Marketing (which as Techbuyer’s Content Editor is my professional area) plus HR and Finance departments, for example, are just as important when it comes to sustainable and environmental approaches to work.

Green skills will soon be business-as-usual – part of every job, every day, in the same way digital fluency has become the norm. The sooner we all develop these new skills the better. I would thoroughly recommend the training and encourage every business to enquire about what Techbuyer can bring to your organisation regarding acquiring increasingly vital sustainability skills and awareness within your workforce.

Techbuyer’s IEMA Sustainability Training for the Workforce

At Techbuyer, we fully understand the importance of sustainability. While our business aims to address this in the technology industry, we want to expand our impact as much as possible and our training for employees across the board in any company helps us to achieve this. We are able to do that precisely because our sustainability team has a wealth of knowledge and experience that we can pass on, and this training is an ideal way to do so.

Making sustainability an elementary focus in business is a big challenge, and there's no quick fix. But the momentum is building and IEMA sustainable business training such as Techbuyer offers is an integral part.
