Techbuyer Group Launches New Business, Interact, for Low Carbon, Energy Efficient Data Centres

Charlie Collett, Content Marketing Coordinator Jan 15, 2021

Techbuyer Group is proud to announce the launch of its new software focused business, Interact.

Interact has developed a one-of-a-kind machine learning software tool that allows data centre professionals to reduce their carbon footprint, limit CO2 emissions and realise significant infrastructure cost reductions. Developed by Techbuyer and the University of East London through extensive data centre research, the tool provides today’s businesses with scientific and innovative infrastructure recommendations.

Interact software can analyse the carbon load and energy efficiency of multiple server configurations and brands. With no installation required, businesses can have their entire IT infrastructure analysed and receive previously unseen recommendations for increasing efficiency.

Armed with ground-breaking research, hundreds of IT hardware experiments, and an academic paper in the world-leading publication, the IEEE, Interact is going to change the way that data centre managers think about their hardware. And their first software tool is only the beginning.

The Interact launch was shared by industry publications including Thomas Net, Techerati, The Data Centre Alliance (DCA) and Data Centre & Network News. Find out more about Interact in this Yorkshire Times article.

Article summary:

  • Data centres are responsible for a staggering proportion of the planet’s carbon footprint and energy usage. By producing concrete recommendations on hardware solutions, Interact helps today’s businesses to increase the efficiency of their IT infrastructure and reduce their environmental impact. It is the only tool on the market to do so whilst simultaneously providing vendor neutral hardware recommendations on make, model and configuration.
  • Over the past 18 months, Techbuyer has carried out an Innovate UK funded Knowledge Transfer Project (KTP) with the University of East London. This has combined technical expertise in the data centre sector with machine learning to carry out hundreds of IT hardware experiments. The tool has been developed from this research.
  • Techbuyer employees Rich Kenny, Group IT Director, Astrid Wynne Techbuyer Sustainability Lead and Nour Rteil, KTP Associate Developer have co-authored an IEEE paper which is being released later in January 2021. The paper examines the effect of Moore’s slowdown on IT refresh, and provides evidence that refurbished servers, with optimum configuration, can be the ideal choice for businesses in terms of minimised carbon footprint and efficiency. Interact’s recommendations developed from these ground-breaking findings.
