When the storage capacity nears its limits, it can easily be expanded with the addition of a Synology RX1211/RX1211RP2. This expansion unit is connected to the RS3412xs/RS3412RPxs via an Infiniband cable, providing a 12 Gb/s SATA signal for maximum throughput. Managing the large storage space on the RS3412xs/RS3412RPxs is simple and flexible, with the ability to create multiple volumes on a RAID structure for efficient storage management. And when more space is needed, the volume can be easily expanded without any service disruption.

Unified Storage and Virtualization Ready

The RS3412xs/RS3412RPxs runs on Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which integrates file-level and block-level storage in one unified platform. This provides management simplicity and reduces the total cost of ownership. The system supports comprehensive network protocols (CIFS/SMB, AFP, and NFS) for seamless file sharing across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. It also offers iSCSI support, making it an ideal alternative to SAN solutions for businesses. With iSCSI, the RS3412xs/RS3412RPxs provides a seamless storage solution for virtualization servers, such as VMware, Citrix, and Hyper-V. The built-in backup application allows for backing up data to another Synology NAS, expansion unit, or any rsync server via encrypted transmission. It also supports backing up to the cloud with Amazon S3. Shared Folder Sync is available for implementing disaster recovery plans, allowing the RS3412xs/RS3412RPxs to replicate data to another DiskStation within the Intranet or across the Internet, reducing the risk of business interruption.
