Maximise your University IT Budget with Techbuyer

There aren’t many things that Techbuyer do better than maximising university IT budgets. I’ve worked with university IT departments for almost 3 years now, so it’s about time I share my top 3 tips for making the most of your university IT budget.

1. Refurbished servers, storage and networking equipment

Although refurbished servers from Techbuyer are available at a much lower price point than a new equivalent part, our 25-point recertification process ensures every refurbished server delivers the same, if not better, functionality.

I recently worked with a British university looking to upgrade their infrastructure from Dell M620 blades. We were able to provide 42 refurbished Dell M630s blades with memory, hard drives and CPUs all backed by a three-year warranty, including (KYHD - keep your hard drive), which provided a saving of around 20% compared to new equivalents. We configured all the blades-in-house free of charge, so when the blades arrived, they were ready for a quick installation. Choosing a refurbished server from Techbuyer saved this university up to £60k. This meant their original budget of £330k went much further than they originally expected.

If you are looking to upgrade your IT infrastructure, you can save a lot of money by choosing refurbished hardware, allowing you to make the most of your budget. All Techbuyer refurbished servers and components run at the manufacturer’s performance specification and come with a three-year warranty, for complete peace of mind. 2. Third party components

Quality refurbished products are an option we firmly believe in at Techbuyer, but it is not the only low-cost, high value solution we offer our customers. We stock a large range of new components from “third party” manufacturers; well-respected names with a lower brand profile than giants like HP, Dell and Cisco.

Industry research giant Gartner released a report in 2017 with a blunt title: How to Avoid the Biggest Rip- Off in Networking. It has some good things to say about non-branded transceivers, one of the product lines we stock here at Techbuyer. It states that organisations should resist the fear, uncertainty and doubt created by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and take advantage of the massive cost reduction offered by the non-branded alternatives.

We recently worked on a project with the University of Cambridge Network Services. As a result of increasing consumption, they were looking to increase bandwidth speeds by installing 10GB transceiver modules. The third-party parts from Techbuyer were compatible with the university’s Cisco system, came with a lifetime warranty and saved the University of Cambridge Network Services hundreds of thousands of pounds.

3. Sell your excess and redundant enterprise IT hardware

Our team have years of experience buying redundant enterprise IT hardware such as servers, storage, memory, CPUs and networking equipment. We buy thousands of enterprise IT parts every month and using the world’s most certified data erasure software, we sanitise all data from over 10,000 hard drives each month.

If you have a room full of IT equipment you no longer need, are planning a full data centre decommission or are upgrading equipment and unsure what to do with the old hardware, don’t pay someone to take it away. We will pay you for your equipment, ensure all hard drives are completely erased of all data and will provide full certification of this process.
