5 Star SDGs

We are proud to announce last month, in our 4th year of supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Techbuyer has achieved its 5th star, joining the ranks of leading sustainable companies in championing environmental best practices.

It’s been four long years since we signed up to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and our dedication to our targets is still strong!

No two days have been the same in our sustainability journey; we’ve entered the classrooms of schools around the country to educate children on sustainable IT practices; we’ve seen our team work tirelessly to divert e-waste from landfill to reduce the impact of technology on the environment and we’ve even seen team members caked in mud as they run the Total Warrior event in aid of charity.

This year we took on the challenge to get our 5th star in support of the SDGs and join the other 20 companies (out of over 4,000 supporting organizations!) to achieve this. We are proud to announce that we received our 5th and final star in support of the SDGs in April of this year!

How to Achieve 5-Star Status?

The fifth and final star is achieved by educating suppliers on the importance of the SDGs, a mission we undertook this year.

Techbuyer hosted a webinar in April 2023 to highlight the importance and impact of the SDGs to key suppliers and industry contacts. As part of our project, we worked with a team of students from the University of York to organize, market, and host the webinar. This method, in turn, contributed to one of our targets focused on the education of young people on the topic of sustainable technology; we have pledged to contribute 5,000 hours to this cause. Learn more about the webinar here.

The webinar explored, in greater depth, the importance of the goals and how the framework allows you to advance sustainability practice in the way that aligns best with your organization.

For example, we have focused on material usage and waste, predominantly, when setting targets against the goals as this is a major focus for our organization.
Signing up to the SDGs isn’t about contributing to all 17 goals (although that is a commendable effort if you do!) but rather about using the framework to advance your environmental and social impact.

Techbuyer’s Commitment to the Goals

Back in 2019 we set nine targets against three of the goals: good health and wellbeing, quality education, and responsible consumption and production.

Within these targets we have established and undertaken projects, developed new strategies and business operations, and advocated for essential change.

Through the work we do and the dedication of our team we have made significant strides towards fulfilling our targets.

2023 marked the half way point of our commitment to the goals and so we took time to reflect on our progress so far. Find out more here.
