Tech Trends 2025

2024 is drawing to a close and we’re left wondering just where the year went! Whilst it may have been a whirlwind, we saw some exciting tech developments throughout the year.

From the continued development of generative AI and the widescale adoption of this recent technology, to the growth of quantum computing – we've seen some exciting developments that make us excited to see what the new year will bring.

We spoke to our IT infrastructure architects to find out what they expect to see in terms of technology focuses and developments for the coming year, and what the impact of those developments would be on IT hardware habits.

Generative AI Continued Development

Generative AI has taken the world by storm – but we’re starting to get over the wonder and excitement of the tool, that had us more focussed on witty poems and holiday itineraries, and we’re starting to see just how useful AI can be in our working lives.

The generative AI market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 46.47% from 2024 to 2030 to reach a value of over $356 billion.

And this is no surprise – 72% of businesses have already adopted AI, with this number expected to grow. AI will continue to adapt our day-to-day tasks, as well as major programs and operations, freeing up time for other projects.

Automation Using AI

Sticking with the topic of AI, we are starting to see some impressive developments in AI-driven automation that seeks to improve the efficiency of many organisations.

From marketing lead nurturing, appointment scheduling and predictive maintenance of IT hardware, to fraud detection and active cybersecurity, automated AI has a lot of potential in the coming year.

Deepfake Defence / Countering AI Attacks

With the rise of potential in AI, also comes the rise of AI threats. Deepfakes are on the rise and these attacks are predicted to account for 70% of crypto crimes by 2026.

With attacks becoming more intelligent, we will see greater investment and further development into cybersecurity designed to counter these threats.

By using AI powered defence systems, anomaly detection programmes and automated incident response, we can see companies beginning to face these crimes. However, we expect this technology to continue developing over the coming year.

Quantum Computing

In 2025, the development of quantum computing is expected to be significantly influenced by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). This development will include developments in enhanced quantum algorithms, error correction, hybrid systems and quantum machine learning.

The global quantum computing market was valued at around $457.9 million in 2021 and is expected to reach approximately $5.27 billion by 2030.

The integration of AI with quantum computing will lead to the adoption of hybrid systems that combine classical and quantum computing. Similarly, AI will enhance quantum machine learning, enabling quantum computers to process and analyse large datasets more effectively.

AI Sovereignty

AI sovereignty is the nation’s ability to develop, control and make use of AI technologies using its own infrastructure and resources. It is expected to grow massively in 2025 as countries prioritise gaining control of this technology, and the data behind it.

With collaborative governance of these tools, as well as the development of national AI models, we will see AI become more centralised within different countries.

What Impact Will These Changes Have on IT Hardware Use?

Increased Adoption of Containerisation

Because of the growth in AI and machine learning technologies, along with an increased adoption of cloud-native technologies and edge computing, we will see containerisation grow in popularity.

For IT usage and demand, this is good news! We will see an increase in efficiency and scalability in terms of the hardware used. This means a more effective use of IT hardware.

Sustainability Competency

The problem of environmental impact in the IT industry is gaining more attention and, as such, companies around the world are looking for solutions to address the problem.

In 2024 we saw several exciting developments for sustainable IT, including the emergence of innovative technologies, such as bioleaching for disposal.

In 2025 we hope to see more companies making the environmentally friendly choices with their IT hardware, such as choosing refurbished, opting for responsible disposal, and extending the lifespan of devices.

As the demand for AI grows, as does the need for more hardware. At end of life, that’s a lot of additional e-waste heading to landfill. With that in mind, we must start addressing our environmental concerns when it comes to IT hardware now to develop more sustainable IT habits.

IT Efficiency

The development of AI and quantum computing is a power-hungry endeavour, and one that will require users to ensure that systems are as efficient as possible to keep systems running as they should, as cost-effectively as possible.

With this in mind, more component-dense devices will be preferred that can power these technologies to their full capabilities whilst needing fewer devices.

Increased Demand for Local Data Centres

With the growth of AI sovereignty, the demand for local data centres will grow. This not only marks the need for massive construction projects, but also a demand for IT hardware to support the growing AI presence within each country.

Because of our more centralised, yet country-led demand for AI, we will see a growth in technology used in the countries looking to advance their understanding and AI capabilities.
