Techbuyer support the UN Global Goals

Key Learnings and Unexpected Outcomes

Our original SDG framework was created when our sustainability efforts were just beginning. It laid the foundation for key initiatives, including the creation of both the Sustainability and Charities Committee, volunteering policies, international research partnerships, educational workshops, and long-term charity collaborations. It also helped us define and measure our social value for tenders and public sector engagement.

During the timeframe, however, we were proud to have met 5 of our 9 targets, despite the market changes during the period, influenced by a global pandemic and adaptations within our own business and its focus.

However, looking to the future, we aim to expand upon, and recommit to goals that we now feel in a good position to achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are 17 different objectives, set with the aim of achieving prosperity for all without compromising on the needs of future generations.

Organisations are encouraged to choose their own achievable targets aimed at tackling (amongst others) societal inequality, environmental degradation and poverty.

The SDGs, as a concept, align closely with Techbuyer’s core values and overall sustainability mission. They also give us a collective reason to commit to do good in areas that we can tangibly make a difference, such as helping local charities and keeping technology out of landfill.

Every one of our 9 targets set against the UN SDGs were made with the following considerations:

  • Is it something we can make a measurable difference in?
  • Are we realistically capable of achieving these goals?
  • Is it relevant to Techbuyer’s operations?
  • Is this a goal Techbuyer staff are enthusiastic to support?

Techbuyer’s SDG programme makes up part of our sustainability strategy, so we take great care setting realistic, measurable targets against the goals in which we can make an impact.

Data is collected by Techbuyer offices on a monthly basis. We share opportunities for involvement and employee successes in internal communications to encourage staff involvement. We then report on progress internally through newsletters, as well as externally through our yearly sustainability report.

Each of our services is designed to help our customers work environmental best practice into their IT infrastructure. We develop internal processes, policies and procedures to ensure that our services can deliver against sustainable best practice. For example, we developed a zero-to-landfill policy to support our technology buyback and e-waste recycling services to ensure that no equipment we receive through these services ends up where it shouldn’t.

Our refurbished technology stimulates the circular economy; however, we ensure that these devices and components are also a viable and reliable solution by providing a three-year warranty and a comprehensive testing process. This makes sustainable technology solutions easier to consider for businesses around the world.

The deadline for our new sustainable development targets is end of September 2030. This gives us 5 years to make as big an impact as possible and drive sustainable development in measurable ways.
