100% Completion

In 2019 Techbuyer was a very different company. 94 people strong we were very much a growing business.  However, we had the same dedication to becoming a sustainable business even throughout this growth.

That’s why in 2019 we decided to sign up for the UN Sustainable Development Goals and set targets against three particular goals: Quality Education, Good Health and Well Being, and Responsible Production and Consumption.

These goals were chosen as they were areas in which we felt that we could make an impact and correspond to three areas of focus that align with our business:

  1. Activating the circular economy.
  2. Advocating for a sustainable future.
  3. Giving time and resources where we can make a difference.

Between these three goals we set 9 targets and now, in 2023, we are proud to announce that we have completed three of these targets!

In the past 4 years we have:

  • Achieved 15,000 active hours for our colleagues’ and communities’ health and wellbeing.
  • Generated $5.7 million in savings for educational institutions.
  • Promoted sustainable technology to 5,000 organisations.

These achievements mean that we have reached these three targets, completing one target against each of our three goals.

Predicting Future Growth

When deciding on what we should aim for in terms of targets set and intended impact, it was difficult to project what the next 6 years were going to look like. Setting goals that not only challenged us (both now and in the future) yet were viable for our future business, took some predictions and aspirations from our team. We had to figure out how we could set goals that were not necessarily achievable now but would become so as we grew to maximise potential impact.

Because of this, targets have had to change as we have developed. Adapting these targets to our growth has been a continuous journey.  We carried out a pilot year and then revised the targets accordingly for the remaining 5 years. We revised some of the targets up and some of them down accordingly. In some areas also, we are behind on targets that were difficult to predict.
In the majority of cases, achieving the goals we have set has been, and will continue to be, challenging, but we have no doubt that we will reach our targets. However, in the case of one of our targets, we have been running short due to being overly ambitious in the initial goal we set.

During the past four years we have also been met with difficulties in the form of the Covid 19 Pandemic and a changing landscape that we have adapted to. Despite difficulties faced we are proud of the efforts made by the full team in the work and dedication that they have shown, and continue to show, towards becoming a sustainable business.

The Future of the Goals

Whilst we may have now smashed our expectations for three of the nine targets set, this isn’t the end for these areas. We will continue to aid educational bodies globally by saving them money on quality hardware, to promote sustainable technology to organisations around the world and to promote activity throughout our offices and communities.
We are also excited to say that we are edging ever closer to the completion of all our goals to help create a more sustainable future and improve the impact of our business socially and environmentally.
