The Optical Metro 5040 is a highly flexible CWDM/DWDM access unit that offers the broadest range of services on a compact 1U platform. It extends the value of our Metro WDM portfolio by delivering cost effective access networking. The Optical Metro 5040 is typically deployed as Customer Located Equipment (CLE) to support Data Center extension, business services backhaul, access network fiber relief and managed wavelength service delivery over converged CWDM and/or DWDM Wide Area Networks (WAN).

Cost optimized and compact 1U CWDM/ DWDM access platform; Transport and aggregate up to 4 independent client services (from 125Mbps - 4.25Gbps) over a single fiber pair; Provision any mix of services - any time - across all available ports (1G/2G/4G FC and FICON, ESCON, Fast Ethernet, GbE, STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12 and STM-16/OC-48); Remotely managed through dedicated optical supervisory channel or Web-based craft interface with advanced PMs; Share topologies and common equipment with OM 5200 and OME 6500; Compact 1U CLE platform with low power consumption; Cost-effective CWDM or DWDM transport and aggregation; Pay-as-you-grow architecture for up to 4 WDM channels over a single fiber pair; Pluggable SFP interfaces for both client service and WDM channels; Multi-protocol support: 1G/2G/4G FC and FICON, ESCON, Fast Ethernet, GbE, STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12 and STM-16/OC-48. Client bit rate range from 125Mbps to 4.25Gbps at 850, 1300 or 1500nm; Transponder and/or Regenerator configuration support with common OM 5100/5200 OMX support Colorless Regeneration (match any client to any line interface without restrictions); Remote management with dedicated Optical Supervisory Channels (OSC); Choice of basic or advanced platform performance monitoring; Supports facility protection schemes and loopbacks; Pluggable FAN module with removable FAN tray; Point-to-Point, Chain, Linear ADM, Hub & Spoke and Ring topology support; OM 5100/ 5200 and OM 6500 shared ring and head-end topology support; Dual AC or DC power supply configurations.
