Compact, scalable and high-performing

The 10U next-generation server platform with integrated chassis management is called the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis (machine type 8721). It is a compact, scalable, rack-mount, and high-performance server platform system. Within a single Flex System Enterprise Chassis, it supports up to 14 one-bay compute nodes that can share resources including power, cooling, management, and I/O. When the shelves are removed from the chassis, it can hold up to seven 2-bay computing nodes or three 4-bay compute nodes. To satisfy your unique hardware requirements, you can combine and match compute nodes with one, two, and four bays.

Flex system components

The following components can be supported by the Flex System Enterprise Chassis: 14 1-bay computing nodes (can also support seven 2-bay or three 4-bay compute nodes with the shelves removed). N+N or N+1 redundant power is provided by six 2500-watt power module. Ten modules for fans (eight 80 mm fan modules and two 40 mm fan modules). Two redundant pairs of four physical I/O modules, each of which offers: a four-lane physical connection capable of 16 Gbps speeds .Each compute node has either a single x4 port or four x1 ports.
