Inserting a RAID Controller into a Dell Server

A RAID controller is in charge of your device's Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or Solid-State Drive (SSD), ensuring that they work together and create redundancy to protect your data against system failures. Therefore RAID controllers are an important component for your server.

Inserting your RAID controller can be delicate and tricky, therefore we have put together this guide to help you with the process if this is something that you're not confident with.

In this video we will demonstrate how to Insert your RAID controller into your Dell server, using the Dell PER620 as an example.

RAID Insert:

  • Before you start, make sure to power down your server.
  • Locate the RAID card and gently push down to fix in place. Be sure to take care with this as the blue clips can be delicate and you don’t want to damage the equipment when installing.
  • Insert the SAS cable into the ports on the system board to complete installation.
  • If you are replacing your RAID controller, watch our video on removing your previous RAID controller here.
