Overview

The HP MSM Controller Series works in conjunction with HP MSM access points to provide high-performance networking solutions. With an enhanced architecture that can scale to 802.11n without requiring controller replacement, these controllers offer robust identity- and roles-based user account profiles, as well as Virtual Service Communities (VSCs) with independently configurable Quality of Service (QoS), authentication, encryption, and VLAN support. This intelligence at the network edge allows for efficient and secure wireless connectivity.

Quality of Service (QoS)

The HP MSM controllers offer a variety of QoS features to ensure optimal performance for wireless clients. These include rate limiting, diagnostic tools for troubleshooting, and centralized traffic management for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 QoS settings.

Firewall

The controllers also include a stateful firewall that enforces policies to control traffic and filter access to network services. They also offer NAT/PAT options for preserving IP address pools or concealing private addresses, as well as support for authenticated network access through RADIUS or Microsoft Active Directory.

Management

The HP MSM controllers offer automated workflows for initial setup and configuration, as well as remote management options through secure web browsers, command-line interfaces, SOAP, or SNMP. They also include features such as interface control, management VLANs, and RADIUS accounting support for detailed session and usage information.

Connectivity

The controllers offer 10 GbE connections to the switch fabric for high-speed data transfer, as well as support for IPv6 wireless client traffic forwarding and IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) and HP port trunking for increased bandwidth and redundancy.

Performance

The HP MSM controllers are equipped with high-performance processors and memory subsystems to handle the demands of larger wireless deployments. They also include a 250 GB hard drive for rapid data reads and writes.

Mobility

The HP MSM controllers are designed to meet the needs of a variety of industries, with powerful security capabilities and support for a range of WLAN applications such as guest access, location-based services, and Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi). They also offer scalability from small offices to large campuses, with the ability to control up to 200 access points.

Security

The controllers offer a range of security features, including Secure Shell and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption, IEEE 802.1X, Active Directory, and RADIUS network logins, and RADIUS-based MAC authentication. They also provide a web-based authentication option for clients that do not support the IEEE 802.1X supplicant.
