Killinghall Nomads Case Study

Killinghall Nomads JFC Sportability Group

“A huge heartfelt thanks to Techbuyer”.

KILLINGHALL NOMADS FC

Background

Killinghall Nomads is a junior football club in Harrogate formed in 1987 which provides coaching and competition for children under the age of 16. In 2019, the facility was broken into and all their equipment was ruined. Techbuyer donated funds to help ensure that the club could get up and running again. Once Killinghall Nomads reopened, we asked if we could help in any other way.

The Killinghall Nomads Sportability team is run specially for young people who previously could not access football, due to their additional needs. Chris Dixon, the Head Coach told us that this group is very popular with its members, however it has been difficult advertising it so that more communities, schools and support groups can join and enjoy it. To help, Techbuyer filmed a series of interviews and videos with the club members, their parents, and the Killinghall staff.

A Win-Win Scenario

Techbuyer staff had several meetings with Killinghall Nomads to find exactly what outputs they wanted from the video. Our Creative Lead, Will Clough was able to gain valuable experience operating professional filming equipment, and work alongside Ernie Wood, an experienced videographer.

“This was the first time I was directly involved
in a charity project. Spending time with the
kids and seeing how much the group meant to
everybody there was really rewarding.”

Benefits of this Collaboration

Chris Dixon founded the Killinghall Nomads JFC Sportability group in 2003 after noticing that access to extra-curricular, organised sport was limited for young people with additional needs. Techbuyer’s footage created a permanent resource which spreads the word about the Sportability group. This will ensure that more young people in the local area can join the club, socialise, make friends and gain confidence.

Filming was also beneficial for parents of the club members, who got to chance to speak about the positive impacts for their children. Many highlighted the importance of seeing their children develop new skills, gain confidence, and meet other families in the local area.
