IEMA Sustainability Training

Procrastinating about incorporating sustainability practices into your business strategy is no longer an option. As the focus on environmental issues, including carbon production, waste disposal and sustainable solutions, increasingly falls on companies across all industries, the time to act on gaining skills and knowledge about sustainability is now.

At Techbuyer, we fully understand that our workforce and the staff members of every company need to be aware of the issues surrounding sustainability in order to develop best practice across an entire organisation through knowledge sharing.

We believe that taking sustainability best practice seriously means that companies need to be responsive to the needs of a wide range of stakeholders and communities, many with competing interests.

We offer IEMA-accredited sustainability training to all employees, and we are now extending access to this training to any individual or business with an interest in embedding environmental best practice to their business operations. We’d love you to take part, and the first release of available dates are filling up fast.

This training, led by our Head of Sustainability and Chartered Environmentalist, Astrid Wynne, will upskill staff in their understanding of sustainability and develop a deeper understanding of environmental practices within your organisation.

The Importance of Sustainability Training

It’s important that training in environmental practices is not solely limited to your sustainability team. Opening sustainability training to your entire workforce and sharing knowledge throughout your organisation offers important benefits including growth in revenue, reduced costs and improved public image.

Rather than focussing on a single individual or team, a broader training strategy allows innovative ideas to come to the surface. Each member of your team will bring individual skills, backgrounds, mindsets and existing skills to your sustainability strategy, producing projects, practices and methods that may have otherwise been left unexplored.

For example, a member of your packaging team, with the correct environmental knowledge and training, may be able to implement new strategies for sustainable packaging and delivery. Therefore, sharing knowledge and training throughout your team allows you to explore a more diverse sustainability strategy and widen the impact that your business can have.

Sustainability can also lead to significant commercial benefits alongside environmental ones.

In a recent McKinsey report, Profits with purpose: How organizing for sustainability can benefit the bottom line, an example given of the commercial benefits of implementing sustainability practices was demonstrated by Bayer, the German health and agriculture company. Bayer runs an academy that offers training and development programmes to employees and others that, it says, “enable[s] out-the-box thinking,” regarding sustainability ideas.

As part of this, staff at the company developed a resource-efficiency check to boost operations, using by-products and reducing wastewater. The company expects the process to save more than $10 million a year and. This is not unusual; 79% of Fortune 500 companies reporting to the Carbon Disclosure Project had higher returns on their carbon investments than their overall portfolio.

IEMA Sustainability Training for the Workforce

Finding the right training for your business and workforce is essential to getting the skills and understanding you need for the development of your sustainability strategy.

Techbuyer is currently offering IEMA’s “Environmental Sustainability Skills for the Workforce”, an entry-level course that provides a deeper understanding of environmental best practice, regulations and metrics to enhance your sustainability strategy.

In April 2022, we were announced as a corporate member of IEMA, joining other leading organisations, including Lego, BAE Systems and Jacobs, in addition to public-sector bodies such as the Department of Education and the Ministry of Defence.

The training covers a range of crucial issues such as environmental risks and opportunities, drivers for sustainability and current and upcoming legislation. Other elements covered include current laws, legislation and other compliance obligations; major environmental sustainability impacts such as resource depletion, pollution and climate change; practical steps on how to put the knowledge gained from our training into your own organisation’s operations.

As a global provider of optimised sustainable IT solutions, environmental best practice and sustainability strategy are essential aspects of our organisation. We work to improve both our own business footprint and the environmental benefits of the services we deliver to our customers.

As Astrid Wynne points out, being a corporate member of IEMA “offers us the opportunity to upskill staff ... with externally accredited sustainability training, which is really important in the current climate.”

The right training for your staff is vital to drive competitiveness, productivity, resilience and growth in your organisation against the current backdrop of sustainability and climate threats.

IEMA accredited courses can equip your workforce with the right knowledge and skills to achieve your environmental and sustainability goals. As IEMA says: “We provide resources, tools, knowledge and research sharing to meet the real world needs of our members. We believe that together we are positively changing attitudes to sustainability as a progressive force for good.

Through our global sustainability standards and partnerships, we are driving understanding and uptake of crucial skills that will keep the world of business in business.”

Sustainable Training and Techbuyer’s Sustainable IT Solutions

Environmental and social issues are rapidly becoming central to how effectively businesses can adapt to the current climate. We must adopt lifecycle thinking to the way in which we purchase, use and dispose of what we currently have, as well as to our business models and growth strategies.  This development requires a solid understanding of sustainability and circular economy best practices across your business.

The need to develop a thorough understanding of sustainability across the workforce is critical because that is a good way to allow innovation and new ideas can be generated from as wide a pool as possible – your employees.
