Supporting Green Month

This September we’ve paired up with Your Harrogate Radio to promote Green Month and share information on sustainability in our local area. Making a positive environmental impact is often linked to big business, government and large-scale sustainability projects, but we wanted to raise awareness for the little changes and the small adaptations that make a major difference in our battle for a circular IT sector.

Throughout September we have been sharing tips, tricks and advice on how you can improve your individual impact on the planet. From donating your used devices at our tech amnesty and making quick changes to how you use your IT, to exploring a career in sustainability,  there are lots of methods that you can investigate to help society and the planet.

Techbuyer’s Tech Amnesty

On the 30th September we are hosting a tech amnesty for members of the public to drop off their used devices, getting them out of those overstuffed garage or drawers and back into circulation in the form of either refurbished devices or recycled materials.

Come along in the morning to chat to our technical experts who can explain the impact of IT on our planet and declutter your house of used tech in the process.

Currently, over 17% of all e-waste (electronic waste) is recycled and the average household in Britain is clinging on to up to 60 used devices, including smartphones, cables, laptops, tablets and maybe even washing machines. Wouldn’t it be a great feeling to give those devices the life they deserve? Tech is meant for use, not gathering dust in the backs of old cupboards, so pop along on your morning commute, school run, dog walk or coffee stop to drop off the technology that you no longer use.

Sustainable Tech Tips and Tricks

Pairing sustainability and tech can often feel like jamming a square peg in a round hole... But this month we wanted to demonstrate that this doesn’t have to be the case. There are lots of small changes that you can undertake right now to make your technology and use of IT more environmentally friendly, including turning your camera off on Zoom calls (no need to hide that pile of dirty laundry!), clearing out your emails from your inbox and considering refurbished for your next phone, computer, laptop or other tech gadget.
