Marketing for the Circular Economy

For the past two years, Techbuyer has been running a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with the University of Hull, exploring circularity in device use within a business setting.

From this project, our team has developed Circul8, a programme that assesses the performance of IT hardware in your business and evaluates its use against its current workload, as well as monitoring the lifespan of the technology. The programme is designed to help businesses make smarter choices when it comes to their IT habits and circulate their devices amongst teams to match the performance of hardware to the required workload.

We partnered with the University of York, hosting a group of students who were given the task of helping us to soft launch Circul8 to the market. The project involved market research into potential customers, producing assets and marketing collateral, as well as hosting a webinar to interested parties.

The Running of the Project

Having been working with the students for a number of months on this project, we were impressed by their professionalism, dedication and creativity.

Throughout, the group displayed enthusiasm and a good level of knowledge that helped create a fully formed marketing campaign for the Circul8 product.

This campaign included a series of requirements, of which customer and market research played a large part. The team conducted thorough research, identifying a gap in the market to target SMBs (with other solutions more aimed at large enterprises), as well as a number of potential clients to contact.

The team were also required to host a webinar on the project – through their hard work and dedication, this webinar was well received to an audience of potential clients, as well as members of our own internal team.

Collateral was also created, including video and social assets (as the campaign was mainly focussed on LinkedIn), as well as a downloadable brochure and logo.

Outcome

Members of our team headed to York University to attend the final webinar of the group, a presentation for which they were marked as part of their degrees. The team performed well, answering questions with solid reasoning and conciseness, and explaining their methodology behind a well-run project.

Our team were highly impressed by the work ethic and performance of the group. The ideas put forward, the quality of the assets and the depth of consumer research helped to create an in-depth project that has helped us bring Cicul8 to market.

Green Skills for The Future of IT Hardware

At Techbuyer we thoroughly believe in the importance of education for a sustainable future: introducing green skills in an education setting allows young people to take these ideas forward into their future working environments, driving sustainable development.

Involving the students from York University in this project not only allowed us to take part in a thoroughly worthwhile partnership, but it also allowed us to explore sustainable development with the group. Circul8, after all, is a product designed to improve circular IT habits within a business setting, and so we hope that, through the delivered project, we could demonstrate the need for sustainable best practice in IT use.
