IEMA Sustainability Training

At Techbuyer, we have recently been offering sustainability training to our UK-based team to enhance our understanding of environmental best practices, current legislation, environmental risks/opportunities and how we can apply this to our business. Find out more about the importance of sustainability training here.

In this article, we will be talking to Charlotte Nixon, Senior Content Writer at Techbuyer, about how she found the experience and how valuable the training was to her job and career.

How did you find the training overall?

The IEMA training was a valuable and enriching experience. It was great to sit with members of the team from different areas and hear their perspectives on sustainability in their areas. For example, in the session I attended, we had team members from ITAD and packaging who were able to apply the training to their business operations, whilst I was applying what I learned to marketing.

It was interesting to get a good solid overview of sustainability from a business perspective, as we often think of what we can do as individuals rather than thinking of how my role can improve environmental practice for an organisation.

What did you learn during IEMA training?

We explored sustainability legislation in the UK; that was an area I was completely new to. We also learnt about sustainability risks and opportunities from a business perspective and how to identify these.

How do you apply the sustainability to your own position?

The knowledge received from the training has been essential for offering in-depth sustainability content. It has made the writing of sustainability blogs and articles smoother and more enriching whilst working with the sustainability team. Similarly, I am a member of Techbuyer’s Sustainability Committee and the training has enabled us all bring diverse ideas and different ways of thinking to our meetings to help us achieve our sustainability goals.

Would You Recommend Sustainability Training?

I would recommend this training to anybody who wants to gather a deeper understanding of sustainability and put an environmental focus on their career. My job is not focused on sustainability; however, the training has allowed me to explore this area and bring understanding to my work. The course taught me that I don’t need a background in sustainability to have a sustainable career; I can apply the knowledge I learnt to this role and it has helped me develop as a professional.

We recently published an article on the importance of knowledge sharing and sustainability training. Find out more about how your employees or team can benefit from sustainability training here.
