Green elf project announcement

Techbuyer is on a mission to create some good old Christmas magic this year.  We are partnering with Enchantica’s (an educational theatre company) and other local Harrogate businesses to bring Yorkshire primary school students a Sustainability at Christmas Experience to remember. The Green Elf Project welcomes local primary children to the Elf Village for an enjoyable learning experience about how they can earn their Green Elf Award and help Father Christmas and the Elves make a difference this Christmas.

How are we Getting Involved?

While the Techbuyer team are not known for their musical theatre prowess or their magical Christmas cheer (rumour has it there are a few Scrooges in the ranks), we do know our fair share about the circular economy and sustainability. That is why we are leaving the glitz and showbiz to the experts at Enchantica’s and instead focusing on the educational lessons that will be weaved into the production.

Our Sustainability Team has been hard at work creating a Sustainability at Christmas curriculum to educate the ‘Green Elf Trainees’ on a number of key sustainability issues relating to the circular economy and responsible consumption at Christmas - all things that should help Farther Christmas cut down on his carbon footprint and energy bill this year!

During the show, the students will learn all about the treasure (rare earth materials) in their toys/electronics, where they come from and the importance of reusing, repurposing and repairing what they already have. We will also be showing the kids small, actionable steps they can take to make their Christmas more sustainable this year. This mini curriculum is designed to show the kids that they have the power to make an impact and create positive change.

Our design team is also hard at work creating props for the show as well as a Christmas-themed educational magazine filled with sustainability-themed activities and challenges for the students to complete. Unfortunately, nobody in the business agreed to sport the fetching green tights and curly-toed slippers of Santa’s Elves this year so our involvement is very much backstage!

Why are we Getting Involved?

“Christmas is one of the best times of the year, but it’s also one of the most wasteful – the UK throws away enough wrapping paper during the festive season to wrap around the Earth 8 times! The Elf Village will give children all the tips and tricks they need to make future Christmases more sustainable through the circular economy.” - Jack Nove, Sustainability Coordinator

Educating the next generation of decision-makers on sustainability and technology is something that is very important to us here at Techbuyer. As global environmental challenges intensify and the need for action grows, it becomes even more important that the young people of today have the tools they need to overcome the environmental challenges of tomorrow. And to be honest, we really want to meet the real Santa Clause (who will be there at the show!).

Our sustainability team spend a lot of time speaking to large organisations, panels and governments but it is rare we get the opportunity to reach this important audience. When Suzanne Vaughan, the founder of Enchantica’s, came to us and told us about her vison for the Green Elf Project we knew it was something that we had to get involved with.

Not only does this project spread a vital message to our young people, but it also provides some much-needed magic for people in our local community who have all experienced turbulence and disruption in recent years. The Green Elf Project is set to be a fantastic day out for school kids in our local community, we are delighted that we can help to give them a Christmas experience to remember!
