Celebrating Local: the Harrogate Advertiser Excellence in Business Awards 2020

Techbuyer was delighted to be a finalist for ‘Best Large Company of the Year’ at the 2020 Harrogate Advertiser Excellence in Business Awards. The awards celebrate the most innovative, determined and skilled businesses that the local area has to offer.

This was the 15th anniversary of the awards, but the first time that they had happened virtually. Harry Gration, BBC Look North presenter lead the ceremony, talking to award winners and only pausing occasionally for a sip of champagne. Whilst we couldn’t celebrate together all in one room, it was a lovely event in which the community feel of Yorkshire shone right through.

Particular highlights of the night were seeing Luke Messenger win ‘Apprentice of the Year’ from Disability Action Yorkshire, an organisation based across the road from us on Hornbeam Park, who support people with disabilities across Yorkshire. We also enjoyed hearing about JarFull – a shop which sells plastic-free food and household items such as fruit, vegetables and pasta – which picked up ‘Best Newcomer of the Year’ for its first year of success.

Techbuyer may not have won the category award, but we did take home ‘Tweet of the Night’… All thanks to the team’s favourite ‘doggy long legs’, Georgie!

The ceremony also celebrated the efforts of businesses over the past six months during the Covid-19 pandemic. From Harrogate Tipple who switched cocktails for hand sanitiser, to the Harrogate Bus Company keeping businesses connected throughout the pandemic… There have been countless examples of community spirit throughout this difficult time.

It’s been a busy time for Techbuyer, and we’re very fortunate to have been classed as an essential industry throughout the pandemic. We have been able to launch a number of new services in order to better support our clients, including IT rentals, refurbished laptops and quality laptop upgrades. We’ve also kept our warehouses open thanks to necessary measures like social distancing.

As Harry Gration said, businesses aren’t simply supporting the local economy; “they can be the lifeblood of the community, too”. It was an honour to take part in this year’s Harrogate Advertiser Excellence in Business Awards, and we hope to see everybody in person soon.
