Sustainable Careers Leading to Bright Futures

Are you ambitious, creative, curious – do you want to make a positive difference in this turbulent world? If the answer is ‘Yes,’ then keep reading, we're on the same page!

We care about the individual careers of those who work with us and foster an environment that stimulates a sense of community. As we spend around 84,365 hours of our life at work, we place an emphasis on creating happy productive teams.

Harrogate-headquartered Techbuyer illustrates just what is possible when people like you - and us - come together to build a dream into reality. Techbuyer’s story began in 2005 from our founder’s, Kev Towers, parent’s garage; from here we have grown into a global force for sustainable technological good, from the UK to the US, from Germany and France to Australia and New Zealand. Yet what remains at the heart of this success is our total commitment to people - our staff, our customers and the wider community – plus the planet we all live on, and n with our global reach, a connection to our Yorkshire roots.

Our commitment to sustainable careers and the promotion of environmentally friendly technology are core motivations for our desire to create ‘brighter futures.’ We have partnered with Your Harrogate Radio for Green Month this September to spread our message of sustainable IT and encourage those looking for a career with an environmental twist to contact us. What is a Sustainable Career?

Sustainability skills, or ‘green skills’ are widely sought after, with job postings requiring green talent growing 8% every year since 2015. These skills involve areas such as remediation, recycling, and knowledge of core environmental issues.

A sustainable career can be a position in marketing, operations, sales, web development, IT or purchasing if you approach the job with an environmental attitude, a willingness to learn and a passion for doing what’s right by the planet. Working for a company with sustainability at its core also helps direct your career and grow your green skills. Find out more about sustainable careers here.

Exploring Sustainability Careers in Techbuyer

We are driven by what is both a simple and a very complicated truth: the Earth cannot sustain humanity’s current practice of ‘take-make-waste' consumption much longer. In short, unless we can affect positive, sustainable change we won’t have a planet that can support the very people we care about – you and us.

That is why we place so much store in working with people with the ‘right stuff’ rather than just the right qualifications. In other words, those who have the desire to push for a better world through what they do and how they do it.

Techbuyer’s focus is to ensure that everybody within our business has the opportunity to explore sustainability through their career and get involved in our environmental projects. We work to support and promote environmental best practice on a global and local scale, and this is only possible through the effort dedication and give-it-a-go attitude of our team.

As Josh Kidd, our Group Sales Director and a Techbuyer original, reveals: “Investing in people is a hallmark of the Techbuyer approach. From the very beginning we have stood firm on the idea of bringing in inexperienced people who want to work hard and progress; training them in the ‘Techbuyer Way’.” Find out more about Josh's Experience here.

We always aim to give our employees the tools they need to advance a sustainable career, to provide a range of opportunities to get stuck in with environmental projects, local communities and events and to help further their interests and skills. Part of our outlook involves working with charities to support the local and wider community,  Members of our team are paired up with groups as diverse as St Michael’s Hospice Harrogate, The Yorkshire Aid Convoy and IT Schools Africa among other organisations. All these partnerships have been supported by our business, as well as our volunteer sustainability committee who dedicate their time to exploring sustainability projects, initiatives, and events on a global scale.

To Techbuyer, a sustainable career means providing regular training, paying a fair wage, giving the freedom to define the direction of your career, and offering the chance to get involved with the local community. Add to that the option to work from home where appropriate (with tech to do it) and a minimum of 30 days leave or holiday including bank holidays, and it's easy to see why the Techbuyer team are a happy bunch!
