Reducing Waste and Making Products Last: Circular Yorkshire

As the largest, most rural LEP in the UK, the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding partnership has its sights on becoming the first carbon neutral circular economy by 2030. This vision lead to the birth of Circular Yorkshire, which brings local businesses, charities and communities together to find solutions, take action and address climate change.

As part of Circular Yorkshire month, the LEP is encouraging businesses to #TalkCircular by sharing case studies of circular companies. Techbuyer features amongst Nestle, Amur Energy and Yorkshire Water as an example of a circular business that reduces waste and makes products last for as long as possible. You can read our case study on the LEP website.

Case study summary:

  • E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream on the planet and is expected to reach 52.2 million tonnes per annum by 2021. Servers, storage and memory will inevitably make up a significant part of this.
  • Techbuyer buys redundant IT hardware and turn it into high quality, refurbished IT solutions for businesses and individuals. Techbuyer’s products are guaranteed with a three year warranty and many customers are reassured by the fact that the hardware is individually part tested rather than bulk tested in the way new products are.
  • “The beauty is that we can actually save our clients money and offer a sustainable solution to upgrading their IT systems,” says Astrid Wynne, Sustainability Manager at Techbuyer. “We’re proud that our work has set the quality and sustainability standard for refurbished IT equipment since 2005.”

Techbuyer is a sound, economically viable business model that is also sustainable, which ensures that IT equipment is used for as long as possible. Our refurbishment process also alleviates the need to source raw materials to make new equipment. We are proud supporters of the UN Global Goals and enjoy pushing the circular agenda forward with Northern businesses at Circular Yorkshire events.
