Techbuyer Joins the Northern Powerhouse Partnership Programme

Techbuyer is a global leader in the buying, refurbishing and selling of data centre equipment. Techbuyer has joined the Northern Powerhouse Partnership Programme, underlining our commitment to delivering the highest quality product and services worldwide from our northern base.

The Partnership Programme is an essential part of creating the Northern Powerhouse – a network of 140 partners including Barclays, Deloitte, Vodafone, PwC and University of Liverpool who all strongly believe in the economic potential of the North and support the need for a combined effort, by the Government and businesses, to realise that potential.

The Programme aims to jointly promote the strengths of the North, as well as new and exciting developments, in four key areas:

  • Connectivity and transport
  • Skills, science and innovation
  • Quality of life
  • Devolution and local growth

As a member of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership Programme, Techbuyer has committed to supporting the programme and to help inspire and encourage investment in the north. Techbuyer occupies a distinctive position as an exporter to over 100 countries from its facilities in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and is one of the fastest growing tech companies in the north.

We are committed to local growth and progress. In the last three years we have increased our staff by almost 200% and have been able to recruit wholly from Yorkshire - 82% of our staff have a Harrogate postcode! We foster long term relationships with our colleagues and encourage promotion from within, and we invest heavily in training and development.

We recently partnered with the LEP to make a video on why Harrogate is a great place to do business. Techbuyer featured in the 2017 and 2018 Parliamentary Reviews and has been featured in local and county newspapers this year. The company also took part in the 2018 Great British Business Campaign promoting innovative British SMEs, which was hosted by the Telegraph and promoted on television and other media outlets. Given this northern presence, the ambitions and aims of the Programme resonate firmly with the vision and values of Techbuyer.

Kevin Towers, Managing Director says:

“Techbuyer has found everything we need to run and grow our business right here in the North and we’d like to promote the opportunities and potential we see around us. Last year, over 57% of our sales shipped internationally and having our main distribution centre in North Yorkshire has been great for national and international trade. We live and work in a thriving location with a wide range of businesses - from SMEs to international… traditional to innovative - providing us with services, customers and stock suppliers. Recruiting from our regional base in the North, we’re fortunate to have a pool of young (and not so young) ambitious, skilful, and hardworking employees… and we’re straightforward, good-humoured and easy to deal with! Increased connectivity and investment is surely key to addressing the current imbalance between North and South and showcasing the development and successes of Northern businesses like ours is one way to achieve this.”

We’re proud of our northern roots and believe in the North’s ability to compete on a global scale. We look forward to pushing this agenda within the Northern Powerhouse framework.
