Refurbished HPE Gen10 Servers

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced that the Gen10 server line reached its end of life (EOL) on 1st May 2024. The final date to place OCA orders on new devices was 31st October 2024. What does this mean for the millions of HPE Gen10 units still in use? Are there options available for customers needing to purchase complete HPE Gen10 servers or parts? Continue reading to find out more.

What Does HPE Gen10 EOL Mean for Your Business?

End-of-life (EOL) indicates the vendor’s decision to cease production of the product line. For HPE Gen10 servers, like the HP ProLiant DL380 Gen 10, this means that while current customers will still receive support and service for a limited time, new purchases through OCA are no longer be possible as the discontinuation date has now passed (31st October).

HPE’s official recommendation is to upgrade to a HPE Gen11 or newer server. These newer servers provide enhanced performance and efficiency, albeit at a higher cost compared to HPE Gen10. Many HPE Gen10 customers, however, have not yet approved or validated their software on anything other than a HPE Gen10 server, and HPE Gen11 or newer servers may be excessive for many HPE Gen10 users.

At Techbuyer, we recognise that upgrading isn’t always the only option—refurbishment and extended maintenance are cost-effective alternatives.

Extending the Life of Your HPE Gen10 Servers

Extending the life of your existing HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 and other HPE Gen10 servers can be a smart, cost-effective solution. Here’s why:

  • Cost Savings Compared to New Models: Purchasing brand-new servers can be a significant investment, especially when factoring in additional costs like software licenses, migrations, and setup.
  • Performance Upgrades: With SSD, RAM, and firmware updates, HPE Gen10 servers can still deliver high performance, efficiency and reliability.
  • Sustainability Benefits: Fewer discarded servers mean less electronic waste in landfills and upgrading components like power supplies and cooling systems improves efficiency.

Checking Your HPE Warranty & Next Steps

You can also perform an HPE warranty check to assess remaining coverage. Understanding your warranty coverage helps you determine whether you can still receive support from HPE or if you need alternative solutions to extend your server’s lifespan. HPE will continue to sell and honour support contracts for at least 5 years after 31st October 2024.

Another option is a third-party maintenance service (TPM). A TPM will provide your business with access to technical support, hardware replacement and repair plus an onsite engineer where required.

Techbuyer provides a comprehensive third-party maintenance service at an affordable price point covering all tier one vendors including HPE, Dell and IBM plus leading storage vendors. Learn more about this service here: IT Maintenance Services | Techbuyer
