DDR3: A Significant Memory Upgrade DDR3 is a significant memory upgrade over its predecessor, DDR2. DDR3 features updates in the form of the rate at which data can be processed across the data bus and the ability to conserve power usage. The 50% increase in the prefetch length from 4 to 8 bits brings the increase in speed and the diminished voltage levels from 1.8v-1.9v to 1.35v results in the enhanced power efficiency.
