Techbuyer Back With a Blast

Despite a few setbacks, the Techbuyer team put in another brilliant performance at the Knaresborough Bed Race 2017- coming 46th out of 88 beds.

The event kicked off with a parade through the streets of Knaresborough, where beds were kitted out in accordance with the ‘heroes and villains’ theme. Our bed took the form of a Death Star, complete with Darth Vader, Stormtroopers and Jedi.

Once the parade was over, the team quickly changed into their running gear and set off on a frantic sprint through the streets and hills of the town. Due to showers on the day, the surfaces were very slippery and unfortunately one of our team members twisted his ankle. However, he managed to hop along to the river crossing where the rest of the team were queuing to get into the river. After dragging the bed through the Nidd, they eventually made their way to the finish line and completed the race with a time of 20:02.

Our MD Kevin Towers and fellow bed race runner said: “It was hard race but everyone managed to dig deep and push on to the finishing line- a very impressive performance from everyone.”

Techbuyer would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who sponsored the team and helped us to raise a phenomenal £1,093 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The money will help to keep Yorkshire’s two helicopters maintained and up in the air.

We would also like to say a special thank you to the Death Star designers, Ellie Puddephatt and Grace Stanford; the marshals, Justin Frickleton and Josh Matthews, as well as the bed race runners including Dan Shorrock, Rory Henshelwood, Gareth Jenkins, Tilly Towers, Kevin Towers, Simon Williams and Alison Pooley.

Techbuyer are planning to make the event even bigger for 2018. We want to raise even more money for charity and are looking at entering two beds for the competition: a ‘fun’ bed for those wishing to give the bed race a go and a ‘fast’ bed for those who want to set a new Techbuyer record.
