Stuck in the Lift with… Will Clough, Graphic Designer

Working as a graphic designer in the marketing team, it’s likely that you’ve seen some of Will’s work displayed across the Techbuyer website, brochures, social media, exhibitions and adverts around the world! Since joining Techbuyer 18 months ago, he’s been an involved member of the team taking part in pool tournaments, football matches and charity events… Here’s our interview with Will Clough, Techbuyer Graphic Designer.

Where did you grow up? I was born in Oxford and lived in a village near Banbury, a place famous for its two Formula One team bases and for hosting Western Europe’s largest cattle market during the Victorian era. I then moved to Harrogate when I was 4 and have lived here ever since.

What's your first memory? Falling into a rose bush at the age of three and having my mum pull the thorns out from all over my body whilst my mum’s friend held me down. I’ve always been accident prone…

What are your primary roles at Techbuyer? As a Graphic Designer at Techbuyer, I am responsible for designing and creating all content for both print and digital based media. This includes brochures, flyers, posters, exhibition stands and online/social media ads. The marketing team and I have been experimenting with a lot of video marketing recently which I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve learnt a lot about filming and editing and it is often a more creative way to portray our key messages!

What did you want to be when you grew up? Like most kids, I wanted to be a professional sportsman (rugby player) but this was always going to be hard with my lack of size and talent… I always liked the idea of being in the armed forces and did actually apply before starting here but chose to put it on hold to see what Techbuyer had to offer, which has been a good decision so far!

Favourite memory at Techbuyer? I’ve got loads of great memories such as the practical jokes played around the office, pool tournaments, Monday night football, ‘It’s a Knockout’ charity event a few weeks ago, the list goes on… My favourite has to be the 2017 summer party; a hog roast, bucking bronco and great company - the perfect recipe for a good time!

How long have you been at Techbuyer and where did you work previously? I’ve worked at Techbuyer for just over a year and a half. So much has changed in that time! We’ve doubled the number of staff and opened sites in Germany and New Zealand with Australia just a few weeks away. This has provided a lot of exciting opportunities for international marketing – I have to do graphics in German now too! Prior to this, I worked as a designer for a web development company.

What were your first impressions of Techbuyer?! I loved it! A week after starting I went to the company party which was a fantastic way to get to know my new colleagues. I was a bit gutted to discover most of the team support Man Utd, but everyone is so motivated and fun to work with… so I can forgive them!

Tell us something we don't know about you... I hold an RYA Powerboat Level 2 license which allows me to skipper any powerboat with any sized engine up to 10 metres in length. This comes in very handy when on holiday as you need a license in a lot of countries to rent a speedboat!
