The 2019 State of IT: How Techbuyer can help

Well, it’s out and it certainly makes interesting reading. The 2019 State of IT was released by the professional network for the IT industry, Spiceworks this month. Based on a survey of more than 700 business technology buyers across North America and Europe it outlines the issues at hand for organisations large and small. The spending statistics on smaller companies were particularly important to us because it is an area we believe Techbuyer can bring real value.

Key Findings

Unsurprisingly with the current rate of development, almost nine out of ten companies (89%) expect their IT budgets to grow or stay steady in 2019. Upgrading outdated IT infrastructure is the biggest reason behind this. Cloud budgets are a big growth area for large organisations in 2019, whereas enterprises of 1-99 employees are increasing hardware budgets. This has gone up by 9 percentage points compared to 2018, from 31% to 42%.

This increase is driven by end of life technology, upgrade and refresh cycles as well as growing business needs. Outlay on servers, external storage and networking was a significant part of this – around 21% in total for Europe. Given this is a significant part of the budget, we thought we would share ways Techbuyer can help reduce those costs free up funds other business needs.

Cost Reduction Solutions

Rather than offer a cost reduction on the same products available elsewhere on the market, Techbuyer delivers smart solutions tailored to your IT needs. With a product suite that expands new, refurbished and third-party solutions, here are some of the real-life budget savings IT professionals have capitalised on when buying from us

Servers:

On average, these are 10% of the hardware budget for European companies. We can reduce that significantly with refurbished servers that offer identical performance and associated support. Refurbished equipment comes at up to 80% off the RRP. Ours comes complete with a standard three-year warranty and a variety of add-ons in terms of additional support. Refurb servers can be paired with new upgrades too for an optimised solution. Consumer goods repair company CDTI [link to CDTI]  took this option of refurbished servers and new drives took manufacturer support that enabled remote access and still saved 55% on the total cost.

Networking:

7% of European hardware budgets according to Spiceworks, a cost saving of 80-90% on networking will make a real difference. Gartner recommends using third party SFPs to save money on this and we have seen 90% client savings for Cambridge University Network Services [Link to Cambridge case study] on this. Refurb options on legacy systems are available too, saving the outlay on a new system as well as up to 80% on component parts.

External storage:

Accounting for 4% of the hardware budget, HDDs, SSDs, tape and other storage devices come at a significant cost. Torbay Council [link to Torbay Council case study] took advantage of this and saved 52% of RRP with refurbished HP HHDs. These came with full test reports and certified data erasure using market leading software as well as our standard three-year warranty on all parts.

Capitalising on refresh

The conclusion of the Spiceworks report says upgrading outdated tech is a huge driver towards IT refresh. However, many are still unaware of how valuable an IT refresh can be. We offer a cash return [link to Sell to Us] on servers, storage and networking, which we restore to factory settings and deliver to organisations with lower IT needs. Data wiped to military standards, this is a secure and environmentally sound way to capitalise on changing digital requirements.
