ITAD company commissions sculpture made out of 1,000 old IT parts – CRN

Techbuyer created an IT bike sculpture from redundant IT parts to celebrate the UCI Road World Cycling Championships 2019 coming to Yorkshire and to highlight the value of reusing IT equipment. The CRN (Channel Web), which provides technology and IT business news and resources for companies across the UK, published our news in late September and also featured it in their e-newsletter.

Article summary:

  • The piece was created by local artist Steve Blaylock out of redundant IT parts, including a heatsink for the pedals and seat, copper stripped from cables to make the handlebars and server fans to make eyes.
  • Astrid Wynne, Sustainability Manager at Techbuyer explains that “we refurbish excess and redundant IT equipment so that more IT hardware is reused rather than thrown away before its end of life […] The bike is a fun and creative way to show the importance of reusing equipment.”
  • The bike has attracted crowds as it tours Yorkshire's top landmarks, including Ripon Cathedral and Fountains Abbey. It will be positioned near the finish line in Harrogate once the cycling championships start.
