Funky Shirt Friday: Raising Money for Mental Health One Bad Outfit at a Time
Today we dug out our worst patterned, most Hawaiian, and ugliest shirts for Funky Shirt Friday. Whether borrowed from a parent’s wardrobe, bought especially from a charity shop or even dug out of the attic, one thing is for sure: they were all terrible!
The day brought clashing patterns, colours almost too bright for the human eye, and most importantly raised money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
CALM is a leading movement which prevents suicide. In the UK, there are an average of 16 deaths by suicide per day, with men accounting for 75% of all suicides. Our donation from today will go towards CALM’s services, which includes a helpline (open 365 days a year), a webchat, awareness raising campaigns, and invaluable information and advice for those who are thinking about suicide or have been impacted by the death of a close one.
CALM emphasises the importance of reaching out to others that you are worried about – whether that’s a friend, family member, colleague or even a stranger – to check that they are okay. A simple conversation like this has the potential to save a life.
Death by suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45, and so the services provided by organisations like CALM are invaluable for the many people needing support. To donate to CALM or to find out more about suicide prevention, you can visit their website here.
