Stuck in the Lift with… Ellie Puddephatt, Sales Executive
Known internationally as the best baker at Techbuyer, she has kept staff ticking over with at least 40 homemade cakes during her time. Ellie had to suffer through years of football chat being the second female to join us back in 2015! Since starting, 25 women have joined the team and her impressive artistic skills have come in handy when decorating Techbuyer’s bed for the Great Knaresborough Bed Race. Where did you grow up? I grew up mainly in Harrogate from the age of 3. But was born in Guildford, Surrey. I also lived in Chicago, USA for a year when I was 18.
What's your first memory? Travelling to Chicago to visit my Dad for the first time since he made the big move over to the US to marry. I was 9 years old, first time on a long-haul flight, I was terrified. But it was the most amazing experience, I got to see my first concert (Britney Spears before the head shave breakdown), we were in the 9th row from the front! This was then followed by a trip to Disney World Florida. It was the best trip of my whole life, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. (And obviously, never wanted to come home!)
What did you want to be when growing up? I never really had a plan when I was in school, I used to hate the pressure teachers put on you to know how your entire life was going to pan out. I loved my art classes, the only lesson I used to excel at. But I never wanted to be a struggling artist, I wanted to be a successful businesswoman and, most importantly…HAPPY in whatever I ended up doing.
Favourite memory at Techbuyer? Probably my first big End User sale, this was before the End User team was created. It was for a lot of servers which I fully configured myself. I felt proud of myself for achieving my biggest ever order and doing it all on my own!
How long have you been at Techbuyer? I have been with the company for 3 years now, it goes by so quickly!
Where did you work previously? I used to work at a small Apple franchise shop as an Assistant Manager. Working in retail gave me the confidence and customer service experience that is perfect for the role I am in today.
What were your first impressions of Techbuyer?! It seemed like a great place to work. It’s a very relaxed environment here but everyone works extremely hard at the same time. There were only two women in the company when I first started! So, I had to be prepared to take football chat…
What is your favourite thing to do out of work? I do enjoy baking, I used to bring in a lot of brownies and a range of different cakes, the company has got so big now that I need an industrial kitchen to bake for everyone! I do still indulge in painting every now and then, mainly painting people’s pets!
Tell us something we don't know about you... I am quite the geek… I love tech, I play a lot of video games in my spare time and love to binge watch Netflix in my PJs!
