King's Award for Sustainable Development

We’re thrilled to announce that Techbuyer has been honoured with a King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.

Techbuyer is one of only 185 organisations in the UK to be recognised with this prestigious award in 2026. The Award acknowledges an outstanding achievement in sustainability. For Techbuyer, this award marks a significant milestone in our 20-year journey to redefine what responsible IT looks like, both within our own operations and across the global technology supply chain.

As a provider of sustainable IT solutions, Techbuyer exists to reduce the environmental impact of technology. From championing refurbished infrastructure and circular IT practices, to diverting e-waste from landfill and supporting customers with carbon reduction goals, sustainability is embedded across everything we do.

Receiving a King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development recognises not only the services we provide, but the measurable progress we have made as a business.

Over the past year alone, Techbuyer has:

  • Reduced carbon emissions by 57% against our baseline year, exceeding our interim reduction targets.
  • Diverted millions of kilograms of IT equipment from landfill, supporting a zero-to-landfill policy.
  • Saved over 26 million kg of CO₂e by extending the life of technology through refurbishment rather than replacement.
  • Completed and reported against our long-term UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), achieving or exceeding more than half of our original targets.

Built on Circular Economy Principles

Founded in 2005, Techbuyer began as a small operation based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Over the past two decades, we’ve grown into a global supplier of sustainable IT solutions, operating across Australia, the UK, and Europe.

Our approach is rooted in circular economy thinking - extending the life of IT assets through repair, refurbishment, reuse and responsible recycling. From operating in-house refurbishment and resource recovery facilities, to developing tools like Circul.8 to help organisations optimise IT use, our goal is simple: keep technology in use for longer and reduce unnecessary consumption.

This commitment also extends internally. In our most recent sustainability reporting period, we consolidated UK operations, improved logistics efficiency, expanded sustainable packaging trials, and continued to invest heavily in sustainability expertise, training, and data transparency.

Looking Forward

The King’s Awards for Enterprise—previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise—were renamed in 2023 to reflect His Majesty The King’s commitment to continuing the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II in celebrating exceptional UK businesses.

Now in its 60th year, the King’s Awards for Enterprise remain the UK’s most prestigious business accolades. Successful organisations may use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years, signalling excellence to customers, partners, and global markets.

While we take a moment to reflect on this achievement, our work is far from done. With ambitious 2030 targets, a Net Zero pathway to 2050, and continued investment in innovation, partnerships, and education, we remain focused on driving meaningful change across the IT lifecycle.
